Using vlc to capture the screen as a video

Open vlc and select Media > **Open Capture Device...

Under Device Selection, choose "Desktop":

Set the framerate, e.g. 30 fps:

Then on the bottom right, from the dropdown, select Convert:

Specify the destination file, and then click the [Start] button to commence recording:

To end the recording click the stop button:
